Lima, Peru has pioneered the world’s first earthquake early warning system powered by pet health data. Launched in March 2024, the “Animal Alerts” system uses smart collars from PetPace to monitor dogs’ physiological and behavioral data in real-time. When multiple dogs simultaneously show anxiety spikes, the system triggers city-wide alerts through mobile notifications, digital billboards, and radio broadcasts.
The innovative approach addresses a critical need in Lima, one of the world’s most earthquake-prone capitals with over 9 million residents. Within just one month of launch, the system successfully detected 18 seismic events, providing residents with crucial early warning time to evacuate safely.
The campaign has earned significant recognition, winning multiple Cannes Lions Awards (2 in 2025, 4 in 2024) and 4 Eurobest Awards, proving that sometimes the most effective technology solutions come from our four-legged companions.
